Ready to dive into complex systems, help shape spatial-energy visions, and facilitate the kind of engagement where clients and stakeholders feel empowered? Become our new Strategist & Designer!
Job description
At Generation.Energy, we’re on a mission to accelerate the energy transition by re-imagining how spatial planning, systems thinking and participatory design come together. We’re a small, ambitious team of strategists, energy experts, designers and change-makers who believe in an accessible, smart and integrated approach to the energy system. We’re looking for someone who wants to dive into complex systems, help shape spatial-energy visions, and facilitate the kind of engagement where clients and stakeholders feel empowered (not overwhelmed).
But what are we really looking for?
We’re honest: we're after the sheep with five legs! If that doesn’t scare you, read on. We need someone who brings a bit of everything and is comfortable growing in the gaps.
Job requirements
Must-haves (minimum requirements):
University degree (e.g., spatial planning, environmental science, design, energy systems, public policy or similar)
3-4 years relevant experience (projects, design processes, strategy development, participation)
Genuine interest in energy transition, spatial planning, circular economy or working within/governmental or public-sector settings
Experience in project coordination and leading
Fluency in English and Dutch (you don't have to be Dutch, but we expect you to speak good-enough Dutch, further on we will make sure you're enrolled in our in-house-Dutch classes)
Knowledge of the Dutch Planology Context and Omgevingswet
Your skill-mix: choose your “legs”
We’re essentially looking for one of these profiles, or someone who spans several:
1. Project Leadership & Participation
You’re comfortable leading projects, running workshops, leading sessions, engaging stakeholders.
You’re also able to contribute to research or spatial/energy vision development.
2. Strategic Spatial Insight & Design
You understand how to visually communicate complex systems, create compelling maps/visuals/diagram with programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Indesign and QGIS
You’re excited about energy transition and systemic change, and willing to step into participation processes.
3. Energy-System Knowledge
You have an understanding of energy systems, data, networks, and preferably (maybe) system theory.
You are open to working through participatory strategies, translating technical into human stories.
If you pick option 2 and 3, you might say “I design and I get the systems.” If you pick 1 and 2, “I facilitate change and make it tangible.” The sweet spot? Someone who crosses these boundaries.
Relevant topics that we work with together with our clients
Our clients range from municipalities, regions, provinces and ministries, and together we work across scales and topics to make sure all the challenges that arise around the topic of the energy transition, especially those manifested in space, are well-anticipated and addressed. Some projects focus on identifying potential areas for solar and wind energy on a national scale, while others seek the best energy transition opportunities on a local scale.
Why you’ll like working at GE
A culture of openness: we like having fun while tackling serious challenges.
A chance to shape something meaningful: your work will influence how people live, move, and consume energy.
Time to relax: we offer 30 holiday-days based on a 40 hour contract.
Good and healthy food: every day we offer a vegetarian lunch, freshly cooked by our home cook. Next to that we have the famous ‘snack drawer’ with unlimited (healthy!) snacks.
Fair and rewarding salary: we offer a minimum salary of €3.956,-. Depending on the composition of ‘your legs’ it can increase.
Growth potential: we’re looking for medior-level now but we believe in enabling you to level up.
While we operate in a predominantly English environment, on projects and with our clients we work mostly in Dutch, so you will have the opportunity to improve your language skills on a daily basis, in a professional environment.
How to apply
Send us your CV, a short letter (tell us which “legs” you have, and which you’re keen to grow), and a portfolio or link (if you have one) with work that reflects your skills in design, participation, or energy systems via the button below. We will carefully review your application and get back to you as soon as possible.
We welcome applications from all backgrounds. If you’re a sheep with five legs (or four strong ones + an adventurous extra), we want to hear from you!
